"We must have a pie. Stress cannot exist in the presence of a pie" David Mamet

G' Day mates! I've been waiting to try this place since the summer! Today after eating an entire brunch somewhere else, I finally did. I got it to go because I'd already eaten but next time; I'm ordering the entire menu. This place hits a homerun in my book.  Awesome, authentic Aussie meat pies line the shelves, so come on in and take a look! Samples abound!Their pies take 3 days to make. Yeah, you read that right, 3 days. And rightfully so. Both large and small pies are filled with fine ingredients such as meat and chicken then baked to golden perfection.Savory sides like mashed garlic potatoes ($4) made with Yukon Golds, Minty Mushy Peas ($4) and Thyme Cream Gravy ($1) are a must have. Or get a Stack (a combo of them all!). Pies are off the charts amazing! I had the Classic Aussie ($7.95) with ground beef. I just finished it and words cannot describe the homemade deliciousness, flaky crust, and red wine sauce! Needless to say, I'm going back tomorrow for some breakfast pie (Applewood Smoked Bacon & Cheddar-$4.95 and Sausage & Cheddar $4.95). Meet me on Main Street! Aussie Pie Kitchen 2510 Main Street Santa Monica (310) 399-0743. Open Daily from 8am

Recommended: Classic Aussie, Steak & Shiraz, Brekkie Pies, Garlic Mashed Potatoes.

So I'm not going to lie here and tell you that it's so easy-peasy to find parking around here. It's not. In fact, the parking sucks in NoHo altogether. Persist and have patience my friends, and you will find a place, I promise, and it will be worth it. Nestled in the heart of the NoHo Arts District, this cozy little cafe will delight pie lovers both sweet and savory. Are you a fan of Stumptown coffee? Look no further, ROP has it in huge steaming cups for only $1.50! Mismatched easy chairs, a reclaimed wood counter and lots of tables and chairs are yours for the asking. Check out the glass display cases (filled to the brim with fresh baked pies, scones, quiche, shortbread, bars, cookies, and other delights) before you order. You won't want to risk missing anything. Our favorite quiche was from a place called Cafe Swiss in Beverly Hills  that closed many years ago. Last night we were lamenting about how no one has ever been able to duplicate that quiche...ever. Hello, Republic of Pie Ham & Swiss Quiche ($5.25). This was by far the most delicious quiche since Cafe Swiss. That is quite a high standard to live up too. Chunks of ham and tons of swiss perfectly browned made this hard to split. So, naturally, I had to go and order another piece. I made my way up to the counter again and sheepishly ordered the Bacon Quiche. ($5.25). This time I was treated to a savory pie with sharp cheddar. Over. The. Top. Before they had to wheel me out of there, I did manage to have a piece of Cookies n' Cream Pie. ($5.25) The crust is so flaky and tender, that eating this was truly a slice of heaven. Homemade whipped cream adorned the top and the filling was light and creamy. A thin layer of graham cracker lined the bottom. Wash it all down with a glass of orange water and waddle on out. Be sure to come back for Banana Cream Pie, Turkey Chili, Chicken Pot Pie, and the Potato, Leek, & Goat Cheese Quiche. You know I will!  Republic of Pie 11118 Magnolia Blvd. North Hollywood, (818) 308 7990

This charming little cafe in DTLA serves fantastic pie and coffee. All pie is made from scratch in this family run pie shop. Becky Grasley and her son Matthew Heffner opened this little gem a couple of years ago right across from Wurstkuche. Chef Beth Kellerhals (of Hatfield's, Drago Centro, A-Frame, Hot Chocolate, and most recently Sunny Spot) who attended The French Pastry School in Chicago, serves up both sweet and savory fare. For breakfast try the Seasonal Quiche or SeasonalBerry Pocket Pie. ($4.50-$6). Sweet pie slices include fall favorites such as Double Crust Apple, Mo's Pumpkin, and Maple Custard ($5-$6). The Maple Custard pie tastes just like creme brulee and has a silky smooth filling. Small Pocket Pies ($3-$6) come in three varieties, Mini Chocolate Crust Coconut, Brown Sugar Walnut, and Seasonal Fruit. These are great to grab on the run. Savory pies are filling and delicious. My favorite is the Mac and Cheese Hand Pie. Tons of noodles are covered with four cheeses then stuffed into a crispy shell. Chicken and Cornbread Pot Pie is also a winner. It's chock full of chicken and vegetables and makes a hearty lunch. Top off any sweet pie slice with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream ($2) and some homemade whipped cream ($.50) for a real treat. The Pie Hole Blend Coffee is rich and flavorful. Espresso is Dark Arts. For whole pies call the pie shop.  Remember supplies are limited so if they run out of your favorite pie it's tough luck! Call first! The Pie Hole 714 Traction Avenue (The Arts District) (213) 537-0115. Parking in adjacent lot.
