It's so funny, I once remember recommending Little Next Door to a friend to take a date because he wasn't sure he wanted to splurge on The Little Door (LND's sister restaurant which is
super pricey). Good thing he didn't, because as it turned out, he didn't really dig the date. However, the good news is, he did dig the food.Little Next Door does not take reservations so it can be a bit tricky to escape the wait. We love to come
for the brunch. The crowd is colorful, the courtyard romantic, and the food organic, local, and fresh. In true French brasserie style, brunch is served every Friday through Sunday from 9am-4pm. Try to get a table on the patio if you can. Start with the fresh
bread-it'sbaked on the premises daily. We come around 11, and for a starter order the French Onion Soup ($10). This crock of soup is quite honestly one of the best I have had. There is enough cheese for me and as you all know, that's something
I can't ever get enough of. The broth is rich and perfectly salted with a touch of sherry and homemade croutons. Onions are plentiful. If I ordered only one dish here; this would be it. But alas, we all know that would never happen. I love the
Smoked Salmon Plate ($18). Chopped hard-boiled eggs, chopped red onions, capers, tomatoes, a wedge of cream cheese, and brioche toast accompany fresh, gorgeous smoked salmon. This is really a tasty dish. The French Ham Eggs Benedict ($14) with house
green salad is also a hearty savory brunch treat. I am not a benedict lover, but the sauce was light and creamy, and thinly sliced French ham added magnificent flavor. Little Door's Potato Gratin ($2) is a perfect add-on. Paper-thin
sliced potato circles are baked in a light cheese sauce. After brunch take a walk into the bakery and pick up some fresh bread, pastry, house-made jam, preserves, spices, cheese, or cured meat from all over the world! Don't forget the cookies; they're
amazing! The Little Next Door, 8142 West 3rd Street, Los Angeles. (323) 951-1010.
