I've been thinking a lot about breakfast lately and Blu Jam always comes to mind. With locations in the valley and city, there is a Blu Jam for everyone! This lovely little cafe serves a variety
of both comfort and eclectic dishes. Chef Kamil Majer whips up all menu items using fresh local organic ingredients from sources such as Jacob Farms, Rodini Farms, Riverdog farms, Terra Firma, Pitman Ranch, Shetland Farm, and of course, Niman Ranch. And you
can tell. All produce and meat from brussels sprouts to Mary's Chickens are top quality, fresh, and delicious. Open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week, you can grab breakfast, brunch, or lunch in this cozy, warm, rustic eatery. Begin your meal with a
glass of freshly squeezed juice ($4.95). We like orange, grapefruit, apple, cucumber, celery, and beet. Combine any juices to make your beverage of choice. Enjoy a cup of aromatic organic coffee ($2.95) while you make your selections. For breakfast the
Chilaquiles ($12.95) are one of the top sellers. House made corn chips are topped with scrambled eggs, pulled chicken, onions, chipotle, cilantro, black beans, tomato salsa, and sour cream. The Blu Jam Benedict ($12.95) is one of my family's favorites.
Two perfectly poached eggs top a toasted English muffin with Black Forest ham, bacon, and hollandaise sauce. House potatoes are served on the side. Kamil's Breakfast ($12.95) is a unique breakfast treat. Pan-roasted macaroni is scrambled with eggs,
smoked bacon, ham, garlic, chives, and cheddar cheese. You definitely won't find this dish anywhere else! My favorite breakfast dish is the Signature Crunchy French Toast ($12.95). There are only two places where I will eat French Toast and this is one of
them. Egg brioche bread is dipped in batter, rolled in crunchy corn flakes, grilled, then topped with fresh fruit (I dig the bananas!) and vanilla bean sauce. This dish is one to be remembere!. Should you decide on lunch the BTLA ($11.95) is a nice twist on
the BLT. Bacon, arugula, tomato, avocado, and pesto aioli are layered in between a taosted ciabatta roll. The Gourmet Burger ($12.95) is grilled Waygu ground beef, pesto aioli, sauteed mushrooms, bacon, gorganzola, caramelized onions, and arugula. The
huge burger is served with a choice of organic mixed greens, crispy red potatoes, or fresh fruit. If it's a big salad you desire, we love the Blu Jam Cobb ($13.95). Fresh arugula is topped with chopped chicken breast, crispy smoked bacon, chives, tomatoes,
avocado, and gorganzola, dressed with ranch. For bigger appetites the entree of Argentinean Brunch Steak ($19.95) is a satisfying dish. Niman Ranch steak is served with herbed potatoes, grilled vegetables, two sunny side up eggs, and homemade chimichurri.
Expect a wait at both locations, especially on the weekends; but know it's worth it in the end. Blue Jam Cafe 15045 Ventura Blvd. Sherman Oaks. (818) 906-1955 and 7371 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles. (323) 951-9191.
