Barolo wine is one of the world's finest northern Italian wines. It is often said that Barolo possesses the aroma of both tar and roses. Tar & Roses is one of the finest restaurants in Los Angeles.
I always say you can really judge a restaurant by its service and food quality on a holiday. After giving a much deserved five star Yelp review, I feel it's my duty to inform you, dear
readers, that Tar & Roses is right up there with the best restaurants of 2013. Service is top-notch. We changed our reservation (that we had for about a month and a half, at the last minute and T&R could not have been more accommodating). We love
the exposed brick inside and the shelves lined with wines and olive oils for sale. We were seated promptly at a great table and blessed with a wonderful server, Matt. This was just the first indication of how wonderful our night was going to be. We
enjoyed the Bortolotti Extra Dry Prosecco ($13), the La Chouffe Belgian pale Ale ($9), and the 2011 Brander Sauvignon Blanc ($12). Matt suggested we try the Popped Corn ($7) with crisp bacon, brown sugar, and chili. I loved all of the flavors mixed
together. We ordered the Bone Marrow ($11) which was so rich and buttery, served with onion marmalade that melted in our mouths, sea salt, and grilled La Brea Bakery sourdough. This dish was outstanding! We also had the Charred baby Broccoli with
Parmesan Pudding and Breadcurmbs ($13). This had a little kick to it and was absolute perfection. Hangar Steak ($26) was juicy and flavorful and served with potato cream, chanterelles, tomato, and charred onion. Presentation was beautiful. Two of
us shared the hit of the night-the Dry Aged Ribeye for Two ($68). I just need to say, that this meat was up to par or better than any fine steak house in LA. Twenty four ounces of gorgeous, perfectly cooked ribeye is sliced, seasoned and served with arugula/parmesan
salad. We ate the entire plate! Of course we saved room for dessert. Sticky Toffee Pudding ($9) was one of the best we've enjoyed in LA. Chef Andrew Kirschner (Table 8, Wilshire) works magic here with his wood-burning oven and rustic cooking. Enjoy
the small plates, large plates, and serious wine list. Tar & Roses 602 Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica. (310) 587-0700. Reservations recommended.
